Stud length

How it's calculated

  • Studs = length ÷ spacing (rounded up), + 1 end stud per wall, + waste, rounded up.
  • Stud length = wall height − 4 1/2" (one bottom plate and two top plates, 1 1/2" each). 92 5/8" = 8' precut, 104 5/8" = 9', 116 5/8" = 10', then 12', 14', 16'…
  • Bottom and double top plates = wall length × 3, + waste.
  • 4x8 sheathing = length × height × sheathed sides ÷ 32 sq. ft, + waste, rounded up.

Measure once. The rest follows.

In KOR, this calculation happens on its own from your plans: measure the wall once, and the studs, plates, sheathing, drywall and insulation follow.
